why is media literacy important to democracy?
The more our lives move online and become reliant upon digital technologies, the more impact the digital information ecosystem has on our democracy. Media Literacy is our ability to access, analyze, evaluate, create and participate with messages in a variety of forms — from print to video to the Internet. With widespread and instantaneous access to information like humanity has never seen before, combined with our own personal publishing houses living in our pockets, it is imperative now more than ever before that we get serious about media literacy as a means to safeguard democracy.
